Star Ruby
Star Ruby
Star Rubies, a rare variation of the gemstone Ruby, boast a mesmerizing six-rayed star that appears to glide effortlessly across the gem's surface. This stunning effect, known as "Asterism," can only be fully appreciated when the gem is viewed in a single light source, such as sunlight or a spotlight. The dense inclusions of tiny fibers of rutile, fondly referred to as "silk," are responsible for creating this captivating star effect. These needle-like inclusions of rutile are aligned perpendicular to the rays of the star, causing light to reflect and create the star's aura. Although the presence of rutile ensures that star rubies are never completely transparent, it is also what makes them truly unique among gemstones. In fact, these gems thrive on their inclusions, making them one of a kind.
1 out of every 500 Rubies contain a star! Rubies also glow under UV Light!Â
